On October 22, our corps had the great joy of hosting our annual Parents, Friends, and Family Day. On that sunny afternoon, 90 of our closest friends and family members gathered in our office to hear about what makes serving with City Year Columbus so fun.
We opened with an information session to share why we serve in the communities in which we do. This included our impressive data from years past and how we have improved test scores and exceeded our dosage goals in both math and reading. We shared how test scores are twice as likely to increase from year to year in the schools where City Year is present.
After our family and friends heard about City Year’s successes, they were sent to different stations to hear even more information about what we do every day in our schools, and why we serve. They participated in English and math tutoring activities, a game to test their knowledge on facts about Columbus, and training on our signature power greeting. They even wrote each team personalized Gratitude and Appreciations! At the end of stations, they joined our team circles to hear announcements, share joys, and Spirit Break with us.
It was a joy to share some of our service with the people we love so dearly. It is because of them that we are empowered to serve with City Year, and they encourage us to do good work!
Thank you to all who came out and support us!
