We sat down with City Year Columbus alumnus Collin Taylor to see what he has been up to post-City Year!

Name: Collin Taylor

Service Year: 2016-2017, 2017-2018

Where do you currently work? Columbus Collegiate Academy (Main Street) as a Teaching Fellow

Why is service important to you? Service is important because it gives me a sense of purpose and grows my compassion and understanding.

What City Year value do you still hold dear and why? "Students First, Collaboration Always" because I continue to work in a high-need school and cannot tackle all of the barriers alone. I will always need to collaborate with educators who believe in the power of education.

What is your favorite memory from your year of service? The last day of school was Field Day so our principal rented awesome inflatable obstacle courses, slides, and bounce houses. The sun was shining, and everyone was having fun. It was the perfect last day of school!

What is the most important lesson you learned during your year of service? I learned the importance of diversity on a team which taught me to value all perspectives.

What is one piece of advice you would give to current City Year AmeriCorps members? Be intentional and proactive with building a strong relationship with your partner teacher. This partnership can make a major difference in your service year.
