How We Partner

City Year wouldn’t be able to make such a significant impact in the lives and communities we serve without the support of our corporate partners. We are proud to say that 40% of the Fortune 100, along with many other leading companies, recognize that partnering with us is not only good for their communities, it is good for business.

How your organization can partner with City Year:

Sponsor a Team

A diverse team of 8-9 AmeriCorps members serving full-time at a partnering Cleveland public school will represent your company as they dedicate a year of their lives to getting at-risk students back on track to graduate while developing the skills to become active citizens and civic leaders. This programmatic investment supports the recruitment, training and management of a team of AmeriCorps members to help improve student academic performance, attendance and behavior.

Program Sponsor: Math and Literacy

Sponsor and support City Year Cleveland’s Math and Literacy component of our Whole School, Whole Child model. For an entire school year, Program Sponsors will partner with a City Year Cleveland partner school to support the training of corps members, materials used in schools, programmatic events and more. Companies will benefit through recognition on site program collateral, signage, local website and participate in program related activities and site wide events.

Math Sponsor: Mastering algebra skills by the end of 9th grade is critical to a student’s future success in math as it is an essential foundation for both upper level math course and the practical application of logic and reasoning used in many STEM careers. City Year AmeriCorps members led selected students in math interventions. AmeriCorps members undergo intense training to ensure they are prepared to provide students the necessary support to improve their math performance.

Literacy Sponsor: Mastering grade-level literacy skills is critical to a student’s future success in school. City Year AmeriCorps members provide structured support to targeted groups of students who have been identified as at risk of failing English. AmeriCorps members undergo training on high-utility, research-based instructional strategies that can be used to provide interventions to students falling behind in literacy. In class and after school tutoring are aligned with current lessons implemented in the classroom so that AmeriCorps members can improve student literacy performance over the course of the year.

Program Sponsor: Attendance and
Social Emotional Learning

Sponsor and support City Year Cleveland’s Attendance and Social Emotional Learning component of our Whole School, Whole Child model. For an entire school year, Program Sponsors will partner with a City Year Cleveland partner school to support the training of corps members, materials used in schools, programmatic events and more. Companies will benefit through recognition on site program collateral, signage, local website and participate in program related activities and site wide events.

Attendance Sponsor: Students with chronic absenteeism miss approximately one month of school each academic year. City Year AmeriCorps members monitor attendance and work closely with students to improve attendance through school-wide initiatives, one-on-one coaching and check-ins, phone calls home, communication with parents and guardians, and goal setting for students with below average attendance. AmeriCorps members engage students through a morning greeting and recognition and appreciation programs for the entire school body.

Literacy Sponsor: Extensive developmental research indicates that effective mastery of Social Emotional Learning (the process of developing self-management and interpersonal skills) is associated with greater well-being and better school performance, whereas the failure to achieve competence in these areas can lead to a variety of social and academic difficulties. Our team of AmeriCorps members identifies specific students, more of who struggle with behavior in the classroom, to participate in an intervention, which includes activities and discussions focused on building responsible decision-making, self-management, social awareness, and relationship skills.

Sponsor an Event

Many of our corporate partners support City Year by sponsoring our fundraising events throughout the year, whether it is our annual Rock the Red Jacket gala, Opening Day event, or one of our corporate breakfast events. Your event sponsorship helps bring together business leaders and community stakeholders to learn about the transformative work of our AmeriCorps members and build City Year champions for the future.

Engage your Employees in Service Days

City Year AmeriCorps members, staff and supporters participate in several service events throughout the year including Martin Luther King, Jr. “Day On” of Service. Many of our corporate partners collaborate with us on service days and their employees participate in community service events. Projects include planting trees, painting murals, or refurbishing school and community spaces. These events are designed and led by City Year staff to support your employee engagement goals.
