City Year Chicago (CYChi) today announced Jeff Cohodes has been appointed Vice Chair of its Board of Directors.

Cohodes, who has served on the CYChi Board since 2012, serves as President of Northern Trust’s Corporate and Institutional Services Americas. He is also a member of the Northern Trust Corporation's Management Group.

“I am honored and excited to take on this new role with City Year," said Cohodes. "Its work is having a tremendous and demonstrable impact on the students it serves in high-need schools, and the results are paying off through increased high school graduation rates and reductions in both expulsions or suspensions, all of which is creating a culture and climate where children can succeed. I look forward to helping City Year build on this progress and provide life-changing services for more and more students across Chicago."

Cohodes and his family have a personal connection to CYChi: One of his four children served as a corps member seven years ago, which led to Cohodes’ interest in joining the Board.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jeff to serve in this extended capacity to support our organization,” said Rebeca Nieves Huffman, Executive Director of CYChi. “His wealth of experience is invaluable to helping City Year sustain a strong presence in Chicago for years to come in serving the children of our city.”

As President of the Americas Region for C&IS, Cohodes is responsible for all Northern Trust’s institutional businesses in the region. C&IS is a global provider of asset servicing, asset management, banking and related services to corporate and public retirement funds, foundations, endowments, fund managers, insurance companies and government funds.

Cohodes joined Northern Trust in 1993 and served as Chief Risk Officer from 2011 to 2017. He also served as an Executive Vice President in the Wealth Management business from 2010 to 2011 and as the Chief Operating Officer for the Asset Management business from 2009 to 2010.

He earned a B.S. degree in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. degree in finance and accounting from the Graduate School of Business (now Booth) at the University of Chicago. He also holds an inactive Certified Public Accountant license.

Cohodes also serves on the Board of Directors for the Golden Apple Foundation and is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.

Recently, CYChi deployed over 220 highly skilled AmeriCorps members to serve in 26 public schools in the south and west sides of Chicago. Together, this team will transform the future for nearly 14,600 students.

For more than 25 years, the national organization City Year has united young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world. For a full list of the City Year Chicago Board, visit:
