City Year Chicago would like to congratulate the Chicago Cubs on their World Series win; their first since 1908. Their sportsmanship and performace as a team inspires our AmeriCorps members. City Year Chicago has served alongside Cubs players and staff over the years, and we share a strong commitment to Chicago communities and students.

City Year Chicago also honored the Executive Chairman of the Chicago Cubs, Thomas S. Ricketts at the 2016 Ripples of Hope Awards Dinner where he addressed City Year and guests.

What do the City Year Chicago AmeriCorps members think of this historic win?

Antonio Marshall, serving on the Johnson School of Excellence Team recalls the famous Harry Caray quote: "Sure as God made green apples, someday, the Chicago Cubs are going to be in the World Series!" Welcome to someday!

"Sports teams have a way of bringing people together, and Chicago is definitely together right now," says Onya Edwards, who serves students a few miles west of Wrigley Field at Schurz High School. "This Cubs win for Chicago re-instilled hope not only in Chicago baseball but in the people of Chicago being unified as one. Let's go Cubbies."

Congratulations to the 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs! We look forward to celebrating your win and serving alongside you soon!
