In addition to 23 school-based teams, City Year Boston also has a small, mighty team of Service Leaders, who lead service days throughout the year. Here's a day-in-the-life view of a service event beautifying  a space that serves youth, the Everett YMCA.

Here, Impact Manager Bethany Reynolds and Service Leader Mateo Umbarila Guzman walk through the day's mural projects.

Corporate volunteers, students like these NYU students, Service Reserve members of the school-based part of our corps, and even caring members of communities are the participants of our service days. Last year, we led 27 service days with over 2,500 volunteers!

The projects that we work on are the result of a conversation between us and the service site (often Boston Public Schools or, in this case, the YMCA) about their needs and what we can provide. Our projects focus around providing a welcoming, positive climate for the students, because we know that a student's educational experience is defined by a variety of factors, in addition to academics. We beautify learning spaces.

Thank you @nyuengrosarc for your hard work today!

97% of our volunteers would recommend serving on a City Year project.

Before and after! After the volunteers leave, our team will go over their work and carefully reset any workspaces we've shifted. And our service doesn't end when the paint is dry; in the months and years that follow, we continue to check on completed projects and make touch-ups as needed, ensuring that schools continue to shine.
