On Friday, March 3, 2017, City Year Boston welcomed over 400 legal industry leaders and change agents to City Year Boston’s 8th annual Legal Community Breakfast.
We are so grateful to all the City Year champions that made the event a success like GE. As featured speaker and General Counsel of GE Ventures, Jonas Svedlund, said,
"At GE, we want to ensure that the jobs of the future are created by and for Bostonians. We're investing in public education, community health, and small business initiatives across the city, in order to help Boston be a great place to do business and a great place to live. We're investing for the long-term, and so is City Year. We hope you'll join us in making those investments in community education and in supporting City Year."
AmeriCorps member Christopher Hui gave a moving speech about drawing upon his own struggles in grade school to help his student, Alice. Read Chris's speech in its entirety here.
One of my proudest moments in my service year thus far was watching Alice stick up for another struggling student. When another classmate taunted him and called him dumb, she told his bully, "He's not dumb, it’s just that he learns in a different way. We’re all smart in our own ways.” I knew then that my message had stuck with her.
