The Department of Youth Engagement & Employment is a one-stop shop where youth from across Boston can connect to meaningful opportunities either through employment, programs and/or volunteering. The Department is home to the Mayor’s Youth Council, Mayor’s YouthLine, and Boston Youth Fund

The Mayor’s Youth Council

The Mayor’s Youth Council provides leadership opportunities for Boston high school students to identify and address issues within their community and learn to be effective change agents in their neighborhood and community.

The Mayor's YouthLine

The Mayor's YouthLine is a peer listening and resource line for the youth of Boston where teen staff find and research youth programs in and around Boston.

The Boston Youth Fund

The Boston Youth Fund is the largest provider of youth employment for Boston youth ages 15-18 years old and provides 3,500 youth with summer employment and over 500 youth with school-year employment. These youth work at over 200 organizations based in Boston and include community based organizations and government agencies. The Department of Youth Engagement and Employment works to provide a meaningful work experience for all youth participating in their employment program and continues to identify new opportunities to provide youth the skills and knowledge they need to succeed beyond their youth employment experience.

Calling All Volunteers

On Saturday, August 9, 2014 at UMass Boston, thousands of youth employed by the Department of Youth Engagement and Employment will participate in the first ever Youth Enrichment Day. This event provides an opportunity for youth to come together, learn life lessons that pertain to “at-risk youth” in a structured way, and celebrate achievements throughout the summer. The goal of this enrichment day is to gather our youth employees and provide them with meaningful workshops, a speaker series, and team-building and networking opportunities. Youth participants will be attending workshop sessions on the following topic areas:

  • Leadership Development
  • Healthy Relationships
  • Health and Nutrition
  • Professionalism
  • Financial Literacy
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Community and Advocacy
  • STEM/Technology

Two Opportunities to Get Involved:

1.      Host a Workshop and provide innovative and enriching workshop sessions on the above topics.

2.      Volunteer to help us manage the logistics of the day and make a successful event for our youth participants
