Last Friday, City Year Boston joined Massachusetts AmeriCorps programs from across the state for AmeriCorps Opening Day 2018, hosted by Mass Service Alliance at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury. Over 1,000 AmeriCorps members came together for an inspirational program featuring Jon Santiago, Massachusetts State Representative Elect and Chester Spellman, National Director of AmeriCorps. City Year Senior AmeriCorps member Zoe Rodriguez (pictured above) proudly represented us on the Opening Day stage.
“Regardless of what you do in the future, of what career path you pursue, may service always be at the center. Through a life of service you will continue the impact that you make throughout this year. May this year of service be just the beginning of that journey”
– Chester Spellman, National Director of AmeriCorps
We were excited to celebrate the start of another service year and take the Pledge of Service with all our fellow AmeriCorps members and organizations from across the Commonwealth. Following the pledge, City Year Boston spent the afternoon participating in service projects throughout the city. From touring the state house to assembling supplies for the Greater Boston Food Bank, Cradles to Crayons, and Pine Street Inn, City Year AmeriCorps members connected with the Boston and national service communities through this fantastic event.
