City Year AmeriCorps members develop positive relationships with the students they serve, helping to meet their social-emotional and academic needs. City Year is learning from other youth-focused organizations and research institutions about ways to support student and school success.

City Year Alumni Teachers: Continuing to Make a Difference in Education After Their Service Year

While City Year AmeriCorps members go on flourish in many different careers after their year of national service, about half of our alumni who responded to a recent survey have shared that they are active in the education sector, 16 percent of whom are currently classroom teachers. City Year now has plans to nearly double the number of alumni who enter the teaching profession by providing them with additional supports so they can more easily enter pathways into teaching.
