Bring the Energy

We all know that getting the morning off to a great start can influence the rest of your day. At City Year, you’ll greet students to get them revved up for a full day of learning and show them how many people are there to support their success—it’s something that you and your students may never forget. At City Year partner schools in Miami, 96 percent of teachers agree that AmeriCorps members fostered a positive learning environment.

Prepare Your Students for Career and Life

Not all schools are created equal—some have greater resources than others to help students develop their academic skills and talents. You can help to close that gap. As a City Year corps member, you’ll open students’ eyes to new possibilities that could be the first step toward a future career. City Year works with partner organizations to bring skills like coding into classrooms that otherwise don’t have access to computer science!

Find Out What It’s Really Like to Be a Teacher

Have you ever considered being a teacher, principal or going into youth development work? Serving with City Year is one way to find out what it’s actually like. You’ll collaborate with teachers and see the struggles and triumphs that are part of life at a school. As a Miami corps member, you’ll support students through small-group and one-on-one tutoring in English and math and teach the type of social-emotional skills needed to succeed in life! Nearly half of recently surveyed City Year alumni reported that they work in the education sector as teachers, administrators, guidance counselors or at education nonprofits—while thousands more of our 30,000 alumni work in fields like business, law, health and government.

Life After City Year

Whatever you want to do after your service with City Year, your team at City Year Miami can help you get there! You’ll be able to show future employers that you have the “people skills” needed to succeed in any type of job—like teamwork or spotting the strengths and talents of a colleague to help them get the work done!
