On Tuesday evening students, faculty, and family gathered for Merrydale’s first annual Literacy Night. A variety of Christmas-themed stations were placed around the common area for students to visit and participate in fun activities. After making their way around to each station, students were able to head into the cafeteria where they received snacks and a free book!
Corps Member Silas Miller waits anxiously for the kids to arrive! He held down the “Oh Christmas Tree” station where students were able to decorate an ornament to take home!
Corps members Kimberly Peterson and Amber Curry set up their station where students built fluency skills by practicing how to read and follow directions. After completing all instructions the kids walked away with a yummy reindeer cookie that they had created!
Corps members Zach Smith and Cassidy Bowers created Merrydale’s afterschool program World Cultures Club, so they designed a station for students to learn about how Christmas is celebrated all over the world! The students also got to test what they learned with a fun game afterwards!
Shown here is part of the 5th grade team at Merrydale- corps members Kimberly Ratte and Tavidee Hoskins have a fun activity at their station for students to practice sequencing!
Santa made a special appearance for the event to greet kids and hand out candy canes. Featured here are Merrydale Principal Mrs. Boudreaux-Allen and Vice Principal Mrs. Lumar.
Literacy Night was a huge success! Making learning fun is one of the best ways we can #makebetterhappen!
