Burgers, fries, shakes… Dearman’s Soda Shop, a widely popular diner with a retro 1950’s style, had it all and more for AmeriCorps members Wednesday night! AmeriCorps members (ACM) enjoyed a dinner sponsored by Adrienne and Jim Moore and Jennifer and Sean Reilly as well as hosted by Mr. David Van Gelder. From the moment ACMs filed into the diner at 7pm to the end of the private party at 9pm, the service and food were amazing! AmeriCorps members had the chance to discuss their days with those that are not on their team as well as give insight into City Year to the employees of Dearman’s via quick conversations. Along with this, a nicely fashioned “photo booth” complete with an encouraging banner and decorations was located near the front of the diner for corps members’ use.
“It was an extremely nice event to have after a long day of service,” said Unity Watkins, a corps member serving at IDEA Bridge. “We got a chance to sit down, relax and enjoy the food.”
Last year was the start of this all-corps tradition with this year continuing it. Hopefully, this event will carry on for the future ACMs to enjoy as well. Therefore, as corps members, we want to extend our thanks to the wonderful people who sponsored this event as well as the staff of Dearman’s for giving us a night to relax and of course, to remember.
