Why City Year loves the University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Law

The University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Law seeks to educate the complete lawyer through a dynamic curriculum that integrates theory, doctrine and experiential learning; provides unique global perspectives through transnational educational opportunities and emphasizes ethics and service to others. For more than a century, Detroit Mercy Law graduates are successful in Detroit and around the globe as dynamic attorneys, political leaders, judges, prosecutors and CEOs of major corporations.

Detroit Mercy Law is inspired by the Jesuit-Mercy tradition of service to others and dedication to the full development of each and every student. Students represent vulnerable members of our community and work to restore hope to victims of abuse and oppression in our nationally ranked clinical program. We are proud of the work our students do in this program. For example, in our Immigration Clinic, students advocate for those seeking asylum in the United States and Canada. In other clinics, students represent veterans seeking federal veterans benefits, defendants with misdemeanor cases and juveniles in the Michigan Court of Appeals. In each of the clinics, students learn valuable skills and make a positive difference in the lives of others.
