University of Miami School of Education & Human Development

City Year is proud to partner with the University of Miami’s School of Education and Human Development, which seeks to be a center of excellence in the promotion and integration of educational, psychological and physical well-being in multicultural communities, offering 25% tuition scholarships for their master’s in community and social change.

The University of Miami’s School of Education and Human Development offers City Year AmeriCorps members, alums and staff

25% scholarships

The award will be equal to 25% of tuition towards the master’s program in community and social change for all admitted City Year applicants per year. The 25% reduction in tuition will only be available to each scholarship recipient for a maximum of two years from the commencement of their enrollment into the program.

Scholarship recipients must remain in good academic standing as required and defined by the community and social change program.

Scholarships are awarded to City Year AmeriCorps members and alums who complete at least one term of service and City Year staff employed for at least two years.

Applicants will be considered for additional merit-based awards depending on the strength of their application.

Additional benefits

  • Application fee reimbursement for matriculated students: Upon a student’s initial enrollment, the University of Miami will refund their application fee through a credit that will be applied to their account.
  • Enrollment deferral: a one-year deferral for admitted students who decide to serve additional time with City Year before starting their studies.

Why City Year loves the University of Miami’s School of Education and Human Development

The University of Miami’s School of Education and Human Development has long been noted for its excellence. Accordingly, it has aligned its three departments— Educational and Psychological Studies, Kinesiology and Sport Sciences and Teaching and Learning—to help move along the path toward that vision. Each department has unique and distinctive features. Educational and Psychological Studies focuses on emotional health and psychological factors; Kinesiology and Sport Sciences promotes physical wellness, fitness and sport; Teaching and Learning fosters intellectual and educational development.

The master’s degree program in community and social change prepares globally aware leaders, researchers and agents of change who create, inspire and engage community organizations. The vision of the program centers on the philosophy that leaders in community organizations must be knowledgeable in research, theories and practice. To create community-engaged leaders and social justice practitioners, the School of Education and Human Development trains students to translate knowledge of individual, organizational and community well-being into action, engaging in action, research and consultation with the community.
