Why City Year loves Baltimore City Teaching Residency
Baltimore City Teaching Residency is an alternative teaching certification program offered through TNTP Teaching Fellows. Since 2002, Baltimore City Teaching Residency recruits and trains talented people who seek to change their career path and who recently graduated from college to be transformative teachers in systemically under-resourced schools.
Despite recent progress, the need remains great—more than a third of students still do not graduate on schedule. Principals and district officials appreciate Fellows’ talent and trust that they play a key role in ensuring that Baltimore students thrive. More than 2,100 teachers have been trained through Baltimore City Teaching Residency.
Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis, so applying early could increase your chance of admission. Learn more about the selection process and apply online.
Please compare the start date for Baltimore City Teaching Residency to your City Year graduation date. City Year AmeriCorps members should avoid applying to Baltimore City Teaching Residency with a scheduling conflict, since being accepted into a program that starts before your City Year graduation would end your term of service with City Year, which could result in losing benefits that are available to you as a City Year alum.
