Leadership Development

As a City Year corps member, you will develop the skills, attitudes, and experiences you need to change the world. 

The City Year leadership development model is designed to guide you through a challenging and adventurous “city year.”

    Throughout the year, City Year staff will guide you towards improving your skills in the following six civic leadership competencies:
    • Team Leadership 
    • Project Planning and Management   
    • Civic Knowledge
    • Public Speaking and Communication
    • Working with Children and Youth
    • Community Assessment
  • Leadership Development Days
    Each Friday is an opportunity for you to learn more about important social issues, receive valuable service-related training, or explore the local  community.  You’ll meet with experts about social issues, learn how to effectively plan projects and lead teams, and reflect on what you are learning from your service experiences.
  • Leadership Learning Sessions
    These regularly scheduled one-hour group reflection sessions allow you and your team to explore the connection between service and leadership development. 
  • Personal Leadership Development Workbook & Guide
    This personal journal provides guided reflection questions and brief essays designed to help you make the most of your service experiences.
