How You'll Do It

As a corps member at City Year, you will be part of a culture that unites people on the common ground of service through:

Service Programs
Community Engagement
Diverse Teams

Sharing a Culture of Diversity and Service

Photo by Andy DeanAs part of City Year, you will be a “big citizen” joining with diverse and passionate team members who feel a responsibility to their communities and for the well-being of everyone around them.

Every day, you will work with other corps members to create an inclusive team – one that is strengthened through the combination of individual experiences and talents.

Wearing the City Year uniform helps corps members unite on the common ground of service and brings together a diverse group with one unifying symbol. When a City Year team enters a school, community center, or a neighborhood, and hears the common greeting - "Hey, City Year!" - they realize the uniform commands respect and embodies pride.

The unifying spirit of the corps is exemplified by:

  • The shared values of making a difference through service,
  • The shared power of wearing a uniform that is widely recognized as an important symbol of service to the community, and;
  • The shared opportunities to develop leadership skills through team leadership roles and responsibilities.
