DYNAMIC AND DIVERSE NEW BOARD MEMBERS FOR CITY YEAR, INC.

Cheryl Dorsey, Dan Fireman and Andrew Hauptman
Join National Service Organization as National Trustees

Boston, Mass. – City Year, Inc.’s national Board of Trustees has welcomed three new members: Cheryl Dorsey, President of Echoing Green; Dan Fireman, Managing Partner of Fireman Capital Partners; and Andrew Hauptman, Chairman and CEO of Andell Holdings.

“Each of our new Trustees has a strong connection and commitment to City Year – and brings outstanding experience, wisdom, and passion to building and strengthening the organization,” said City Year CEO and Co-Founder Michael Brown.  “I look forward to working with Cheryl, Dan and Andrew to help further the founding vision of City Year, that one day the most commonly asked question of a young adult will be ‘Where are you going to do your service year?’”

Cheryl Dorsey’s passion for innovative thinking in response to societal challenges has manifested itself in all her professional experiences: as a doctor, as a White House Fellow, in the Federal government and now in her leadership of Echoing Green.  She writes and speaks widely on social entrepreneurship, minority affairs, social justice, and maternal and child health issues.  Like City Year’s founders, Ms. Dorsey was once a recipient of a grant from Echoing Green, which funds promising social entrepreneurs in their start up phase.

“At Echoing Green, we recognize that helping young leaders with new ideas is one of the most powerful strategies to solve stubborn social problems,” said Ms. Dorsey.  “City Year’s unique approach to engaging idealistic young leaders in addressing challenges faced by underserved families and communities is extraordinary, and I look forward to working even more closely with the organization so that more young people can serve and more students and schools can succeed.”

Dan Fireman is the founding Managing Partner of Fireman Capital Partners (“FCP”) and previously the CEO of Willowbend Development, LLC, where he oversaw $500 million in invested capital throughout various real estate related projects.  Mr. Fireman is the Founding Chairman of One Family, founded to end family homelessness, and also a Trustee of The Paul and Phyllis Fireman Charitable Foundation, which has been a leading supporter of City Year for many years.

"I am truly grateful and honored to be a part of such a wonderful organization, which recognizes and embraces the limitless possibilities of today's youth," said Mr. Fireman, who is also on the board of City Year New York.

Andrew Hauptman is the Chairman and CEO of Andell Holdings, a private investment firm, the Chairman of Storage Mobility, the nation's largest franchisee of Portable On Demand Storage, and the owner and Chairman of Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire.  Mr. Hauptman is also a film producer, currently producing Universal Pictures’ “State of Play,” starring Russell Crowe, and “Lombardi,” a co-production with the National Football League.  He and his wife Ellen Bronfman Hauptman were founding champions of City Year Los Angeles and played a pivotal role in launching the program there last year.  In addition to serving on City Year, Inc.’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Hauptman is the Co-Founder and Chairman of City Year Los Angeles.

“It is a privilege to be involved with the City Year program. The organization’s mission to actively involve young people in civic service – engaging our country’s youth through volunteerism – is inspiring. I am honored to serve on the National Board, and I look forward to contributing to City Year and their leading edge work in schools, in every way I can,” said Mr. Hauptman, who speaks of service first-hand, having been a volunteer for extended periods in both Africa and Latin America.

Stephen G. Woodsum, the Chair of the Board and the Founding Managing Director of Summit Partners, looks forward to working with the new board members. “The talent and experience of these trustees will be great additions to our board," said Mr. Woodsum, "especially as we implement an ambitious and important strategic plan to increase the number of young adults in service in high poverty schools across the country.”
