When you serve with City Year, every day is a chance to make a difference and no two days will be exactly alike. With ten teams, each working to address a different need in the community, it is impossible to describe a typical day of a Washington, DC corps member. However, a day serving on one of City Year Washington, DC’s in-school service teams might look like this:
8:15 am – Team circle to go over the day's agenda
8:30 am – Greet students arriving to school with Morning Greeting
8:45 am – one-on-one or small group tutoring
10:30 am – Team Meeting
11:30 am – Meet with literacy small groups
12:30 pm – Lunch time mentor programs
1:00 pm – General classroom support and small group tutoring
2:30 pm – Help with school dismissal and prepare for after-school programming
3:30 pm – Lead after-school programming with your team
5:00 pm – Greet parents as they pick up their children and see that they leave safely
5:30 pm – Debrief the day and review the schedule for tomorrow with the team
6:00 pm – Head home to get some rest!
