In urban public schools that serve primarily low income and Latino or African American youth, 40%-60% of entering freshman do not graduate from high school.
According to a 2003 CDC report, 1 in every 20 adults in DC is infected with HIV. In addition, DC has the highest rates of new HIV cases in the nation – a rate that is 12 times the national average.
