Spring Gala

Ripples of Hope 2009 was City Year Seattle/King County’s sixth annual fundraising gala, and a terrific success – because of our fantastic corps members and the kids they serve, because of the inspirational honorees, and because of the participation of supportive community members.  With this generous support City Year can continue to develop young leaders and serve our community’s children in need. We were able to raise more than $268,665 for City Year Seattle/King County at Ripples of Hope!

City Year corps members work tirelessly for ten months every year to make a difference in our community. At this year’s annual dinner, they shared some of their stories with you. We hope you enjoyed hearing from Megan Thompson and Nick Jackson, our energetic MC’s; from our brave middle school student speaker, Darvin and his City Year mentor, Karina Tapou; and from our wonderful keynote corps member speaker, Jorge Medina. Jorge’s determination and courage in the face of adversity and his commitment to “pay it forward” by supporting others in the same way he was supported by his teacher, Mr. Bean, represent the very best of City Year. We were also so honored to give tribute to not one, but two amazing community leaders this year. Bill Neukom and William Bell serve as incredible role models to all of us in this community, and in particular to our City Year corps members as they begin a lifetime of service. We hope you were as inspired by Mr. Neukom and Mr. Bell’s dedication to giving back as all of us at City Year are. It was truly a wonderful night.
