Located in Northern California, San José is the third largest city in the state and the tenth largest in the United States (population: 924,950). San José has the best public safety record of any metropolitan area in the nation, is rich in ethnic diversity, and has a beautiful climate. With temperatures varying from an average of 50 degrees in January to an average of 70 degrees in July, San José boasts more than 300 sunny days per year.

Sunset magazine described our downtown as an "eminently walkable area with level streets, balmy weather and well-marked attractions." It is rich in cultural and ethnic diversity with more than 450 cultural events a year and more than 55 different languages spoken in the city. Silicon Valley is home to the largest concentration of technology expertise in the world with more than 6,600 technology companies employing more than 254,000 people. Visitors enjoy San José's world-class cultural arts, exciting nightlife, theme parks, and spectacular shopping. It is also close to the beach and only 45 miles south of San Francisco.

TRANSPORTATION

Through a partnership with the Valley Transportation Agency, the San José/Silicon Valley corps receives a monthly public transportation pass that can be used for both the light rail and bus.
