A Day in The Life of City Year San Jose/Silicon Valley: Romel Antoine
When you serve with City Year, every day is a chance to make a difference. To give you a glimpse into what a day may look like, corps member Romel Antoine shares his Monday with you:

7:45am You arrive at school for an opening circle with the rest of your City Year team and perform a readiness check to make sure all team members are present and prepared for the day.
8:00am You and your team engage students, teachers and school staff in a powerful morning launch that welcomes students before the first morning bell. The principal gives any announcements and then classes head inside for their first lesson of the day.
8:20am You prepare lessons and materials for tutoring sessions during the day or for the after-school program.
9:00am Depending on your personal schedule, your morning will be spent in a rotation of tutoring (one-on-one or small group), providing in-class support, or covering for teacher breaks or lunches.

11:20am As you supervise kids in the cafeteria and on the playground while on lunch duty, you use the time to talk with students and get to know them better.
12:00pm At lunch time, you refuel for the afternoon and share stories or best practices with other City Year teammates and teachers.
1:00pm After your lunch break, you dive back into afternoon rotations of tutoring, classroom support and covering for teachers.
2:00pm In the after-school program, you and your team will lead a homework center, tutoring center, structured recess and a variety of enrichment activities.
6:00pm During after-school dismissal, you spend this time talking with your students’ parents as they pick up their kids.
6:30pm You debrief the day with your team at closing circle and share joys and any feedback to help make the next day even more successful. Break and head home to rest well for another day of service!
