City Year Patch

Our Service Programs

As a City Year corps member you will make a difference in children’s lives by enhancing the academic, civic and social opportunities of youth across Santa Clara County.  You will bring communities together through service and you will demonstrate the power young people can have when they choose to serve.

City Year San Jose/Silicon Valley service programs include in-school and after-school servicecommunity transformation, and a variey of committees that corps members can choose to serve on.

IN-SCHOOL SERVICE PROGRAMS

City Year corps members serve in school full-time, mentoring and supporting the academic performance and social growth of students.

AFTER-SCHOOL SERVICE PROGRAMS

City Year San Jose corps members serve in after-school programs to provide students with a safe, structured, and engaging environment. Corps members exercise creativity to implement engaging after-school and extra-curricular options for students that they may not otherwise have.

Starfish Corps

Corps members engage elementary school youth in community service and issue based learning through the Starfish Corps after-school programming. In the Starfish Corps, third through sixth graders experience a “mini-City Year,” learning about diversity, the environment, world hunger and conflict resolution in this service learning program.

Camp City Year

Camp City Year is a positive day camp experience conducted during winter break, providing assistance to working parents while teaching the core City Year values of diversity, service and responsibility.

COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION

In addition to helping schools and students reach new heights, corps members design and facilitate physical service days and large scale events, engaging hundreds of volunteers throughout San Jose and the Silicon Valley to bring people of all backgrounds together.City Year corps members transform communities through physical service projects such as:

  • Painting murals
  • Planting gardens
  • Creating playspaces
  • Renovating schools
  • Refurbishing community centers

By engaging community members, corporate partners, and civic leaders in this work, corps members help share the power of service.

CITY YEAR PROGRAM COMMITTEES

There are many opportunities for corps members to serve and gain important transferable skills while in City Year.  Many corps members serve on a committee in addition to their full time service in schools and programs.

Here are some of the City Year San Jose/Silicon Valley’s committees:

  • City Year PT (Physical Training) Crew

Corps members lead peers in PT twice a week, inspiring them to show the community how united and committed they are to serve!!

  • Ambassador Team

The Ambassador Team works with the Recruitment Department and Community Affairs Department to inspire and engage the San Jose and Silicon Valley community.  They facilitate events such as Breakfast with City Year and Recruitment Open Houses to ensure that everyone in our community knows what City Year and National Service is!

  • Camp City Year

The team of corps members who lead Camp City Year are responsible for designing and implementing an entire week of fun and excitement for the elementary students including a carnival!
