Celebrating 17 years of City Year San José/Silicon Valley
Starry Starry Night is City Year San José/Silicon Valley's annual benefit gala. Held at the Fourth Street Summit Center in Downtown San José, this evening celebrates the power of young people to make a difference with a festive night of exceptional cuisine and inspirational speakers.
Thank you to the more than 380 citizen supporters, business and community leaders who came to celebrate City Year San José/Silicon Valley corps members and to honor Applied Materials' Chairman and CEO, Mike Splinter.
Over the course of our dinner, we were able to raise over $160,000! That extra effort brought our total funds raised to over $260,000! This investment will help City Year continue the critical work corps members perform in schools and expand our impact on students in the Alum Rock School District in San José.
Congratulations to Mike Splinter for his leadership and commitment to the Silicon Valley community and to the power of young people who make a difference as tutors, mentors, and inspirational citizens. After receiving his yellow jacket, Mike said, "At a time in this country when people are stepping back, it is inspiring to see these young people step forward." The City Year San José/Silicon Valley corps have stepped up and given a year of their lives to serve nearly 2,500 students in some of our city’s most challenging neighborhoods, with amazing results.
We would also like to thank City Year Vice President and Regional Director Stephen Spaloss for coming out and supporting our dinner through the Fund-a-Need portion of the program, as well as State Superintendent for Public Instruction Tom Torlakson for coming out to show his support of City Year. And of course, we are extremely grateful to Board Chair Carl Guardino of Silicon Valley Leadership Group for the power and passion he brings to City Year.
