In memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. City Year San Antonio, middle school youth from across the city, more than 200 local volunteers, and the MLK Commission of San Antonio will present a day of service at the MLK Park, Eastside Boys and Girls Club, MLK Academy, and the Civil Rights Memorial Botanical Garden on the east side of San Antonio. In the spirit of MLK's beloved community, this service project will engage and unify the city of San Antonio in a day of powerful service. City Year and community volunteers will work in beautifying the east side in preparation for the largest MLK march in the United States. City Year San Antonio and volunteers will be painting murals, constructing benches and gardens, cleaning up trash, and planting flowers in the Civil Rights Memorial Botanical Garden. It is not only a great opportunity to give back to the community, but also to honor the man who sacrificed so much in order to ensure a better future for so many.

Join City Year San Antonio at a high-energy event that will honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King and celebrate local middle students dedicated to maintaining his legacy through citizen service. These students are among more than 2500 young people who will pledge to serve community and country in the coming months through City Year’s Young Heroes program, which is led by City Year corps members and volunteers.
Service Summary: Following the Opening Day Ceremony, these youth and more than 100,000 volunteers from City Year and the city of San Antonio will unite to march in commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
