In the company of family, friends, and supporters, 33 young leaders pledged to make a difference in the schools and neighborhoods of San Antonio on Opening Day. 

The 33 City Year San Antonio corps members are amoung 1,500 City Year corp members who are pledging to serve community and country in 18 locations across the U.S.  At the ceremony corps members will be joined by friends and family, and community, corporate and civic leaders including:

William McManus, Police Chief
Bryan Reece, First Vice President and Branch Manager, Smith Barney
County Commissioner Thomas Atkinson, Precinct District 4
Steve Bartley, Deputy Director, CPS Energy
George Pedraza, CEO, Academic Mgt. SW, LLC
Mike Larson, KIPP Academy School Director

On Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the UTSA Downtown Campus, corps members - joined by Smith Barney volunteers - begin their year of service by helping to run an educational fair promoting literacy on the West side of town and join neighborhood residents to beautify their respective area.
