City Year Patch

A Day in the Life

What does a City Year San Antonio corps member do each day?

Glad you asked!

When you serve with City Year, every day is a chance to make a difference.  No day will ever be exactly the same, but the schedule below provides an example of what a day in the life of a City Year San Antonio corps member is like.

MONDAY - THURSDAY

8:00 am – Meet fellow corps members for Unity Rally
Unity Rally prepares the corps for a powerful day of service and it is also the time when the corps publicly performs PT (physical training) at various locations across the city and reviews the Daily Briefing, which provides and outline of the day’s activities and site announcements.

8:30am – Team Circles
Each team meets to discuss their service and the day's schedule and activities.

9:00 am – Team Planning
Corps members use this to prepare for in school tutoring and mentoring and to develop activities for after school.

On Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 – 11:00, corps members are deployed across the city to be part of various civic engagement opportunities at area nonprofits.  Each corps member designs their own civic engagement plan which is unique to their personal and professional interests.

11:00 am – Lunch

11:30 am – Travel to service site on the VIA Bus

12:00 pm – Check in with teachers and prepare for tutoring and mentoring

12:30 pm – 1:15 pm Mentor students

1:15 pm – 3:00 pm One-on-one literacy tutoring

3:00 pm – 6:00 pm Lead starfish after-school program on various topics. May also include service project.
