For more than ten years, City Year has partnered with middle schools throughout New Hampshire. Entering into its 12th year serving the Granite State, City Year New Hampshire is focused on keeping students in school and on track to graduate in Manchester, NH. In order to do so, City Year is serving in the six elementary schools that feed into Central High School, the high school with the highest number of dropouts in the state. Corps members support students with an emphasis on academic mentoring, after-school programming, and connecting youth to their communities and schools through service learning and interactive programming.
"Each morning the high-energy, red jacket crew greets the children of Wilson on the playground or in the cafeteria. Repeatedly, I see children dashing to a City Year team member to get a high-five, smile or an acknowledgement that lets the children of Wilson know that they exist and someone cares. Their charismatic personalities create an energy that the children respond to... They organize homework folders, desks and backpacks so that students can be successful not only in school but in life and ALWAYS with a smile and tenderness the children need. Each member of City Year reaches out to students with their wonderful personalities constantly reinforcing children’s belief in themselves. It is with great confidence that I let others know that City Year makes a difference and positively affects the school community. "
