New Hamphire became the first post-colonial sovereign nation in the Americas when it broke off from Great Britian in January 1776, and was one of the original thirteen states that founded the United States of America six months later.

Today, New Hampshire is home to over 1.3 million people and is the only state with neither a general sales tax nor a personal income tax at either the state or local level.

        Business & Economy
Since the late 1800s manufacturing has been important in the state. Textile mills and
factories produced a variety of goods and products into the 21st century.  Over
recent years, however, with the local decline in manufacturing year-round tourism is
now the state's leading industry. Many visitors come to enjoy the state's beaches,
        mountains, and lakes.

state including such univesities as the University of New Hampshire, Southern New
Hampshire University, Darmouth College, Keene State College, Plymouth State
University, Franklin Pierce College and Hesser College.
