Name City Year The name “City Year” reflects the idea that just as young people enroll in a freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year at school, so too should they be challenged to dedicate themselves to a “city year” of full-time service, idealism, civic engagement, and leadership development.

Circles

The Circles symbolize community and equality. The outer circles signify an inclusive and welcoming community.

Lettering Style The Lettering Style recalls the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s, the predecessor of today’s national service movement.

Sunburst

The Sunburst symbolizes the release of energy, idealism, and human potential with young people as the catalyst.

Red Sun

The Inner Red Sun represents energy, idealism, and a warming force.
Compass Points The Compass Points showing the four cardinal directions (north, east, south, and west) reflect the Native American belief that the meeting point of four directions is a gathering place.
Colors The Colors symbolize the rainbow of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences that come together at City Year to work for the common good.
Seven Triangles The Grouping of Seven Triangles in each segment represent the days of the week and the Native American proverb that with every major decision we should consider the impact on the next seven generations.
Four Segments The Four Segments represent the four seasons.  
Twelve Triangles
