Our Work in Milwaukee

Every 26 seconds a student drops out of school in America.

MillerParkPTIn Milwaukee, the graduation rate is just 62%  - much lower than the state rate of 88%. Over 80% of Milwaukee's children qualify for free or reduced lunch. These challenges put Milwaukee's students at risk of falling off track and not graduating from high school.

  • Only 40.2% of 10th graders measured advanced or proficient on Wisconsin state standarized Reading tests.
  • 16: Average ACT test result
  • Only 31.6% of 10th graders measured advanced or proficient on Wisconsin state standarized Math tests.

You can help to change the course of these children’s lives by joining City Year Milwaukee. As a tutor and mentor, you will work in high-need neighborhoods, where you will become a powerful role model to youth and help create solutions for community problems.
