In the company of family, friends, and supporters, more than 60 young leaders pledged to make a difference in the schools and neighborhoods of Louisiana on Opening Day.
City Year Louisiana’s spirited Opening Day ceremony was led by Superintendent of The Recovery School District, Paul Vallas and Mayor-President, Melvin “Kip “ Holden on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol.
Immediately following the ceremony, corps members and volunteers traveled to Magnolia Woods Elementary School to put their pledge into action. Corps members led volunteers in transformation service projects, such as repainting three playgrounds, refurbishing murals and creating learning gardens for the fifth grade classrooms.
“I thank God for answering my prayers and having you all come out and making my school beautiful.”
- Ms. Wallette, Principal, Magnolia Woods Elementary
