The Idealism in Action Gala is City Year Washington, DC's annual benefit gala and one of the city’s premiere events. More than 500 citizens, business and community leaders, and City Year Washington, DC corps members will come together at this year's Gala.

City Year Washington, DC is excited to present the 2012 Lifetime of Idealism Award to Bill Couper and recognize the 2012 Idealists of the Year.

2012BillCouperCity Year Washington, DC is honored to present the 2012 Lifetime of Idealism Award to Bill Couper.

Mr. Couper, Mid-Atlantic President for Bank of America, has worked in the banking industry in the Greater Washington, DC and Baltimore areas for 40 years. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to giving back both personally and professionally through a variety of channels. At Bank of America, Mr. Couper leads product and service delivery integration for all business segments to bring the full resources of the company to clients and communities across Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. In addition, he is the CSR Regional Executive in the Mid-Atlantic and serves as the senior leader for the bank’s management team for community and civic activities. In that role, Mr. Couper oversees Bank of America’s philanthropic support to hundreds of non-profit organizations across the region, including City Year Washington, DC.

Mr. Couper has also served on the boards of many organizations focused on strengthening the region, including the Greater Washington Board of Trade and the Greater Washington Initiative, the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, and currently on the Federal City Council, the University System of Maryland Foundation, the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, the McIntire School of Commerce advisory board, and current chair of the Virginia Bankers’ Association. In his personal time, Mr. Couper’s commitment to organizations serving communities and people in need, including Goodwill Industries, the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington, and the United Way of the National Capital Area reflect his passion for civic participation and giving back to communities. Over many years, he has been a steadfast advocate and recognized role model for volunteerism and inspiring others to serve.

For his lifetime of charitable and community engagement, City Year is proud to honor Bill Couper with the 2012 Lifetime of Idealism Award.

2012 Idealists of the Year
In addition to honoring Bill Couper, City Year Washington, DC will recognize the 2012 Idealists of the Year. The Idealism in Action Gala is a great way for area companies to recognize an extraordinary community-minded employee as a 2012 Idealist of the Year. An Idealist of the Year is an employee volunteer who seeks to improve our community, nation, or world through acts of service and volunteerism. Recipients may have made a difference in the life of one person, an organization, or an entire community. All table sponsors have the opportunity to honor an Idealist from their organization who will be publicly recognized at the event and in the National JournalCLICK HERE for the Idealist of the Year submission form.
