Join Little Rock/North Little Rock on Friday, October 7, 2011 as 24 young leaders - called corps members - will pledge to make a difference in the schools and neighborhoods of Little Rock. These diverse young leaders of the Little Rock/North Little Rock 2011-2012 corps will be in the company of family, friends, civic leaders and community supporters on City Year's Opening Day, sponsored by Comcast and Baptist Health.
This year's ceremony will take place at the American Legion Stage & Picnic Area on the Arkansas State Capitol Grounds. In this intimate atmosphere, you'll witness the 2011-2012 Little Rock/North Little Rock corps formally taking the City Year pledge as well as a City Year alumnus passing the Hammer of Service to the new corps.
After the ceremony, we'd love for you to stick around and have lunch with us and on us! Little Rock favorite Hot Dog Mike and his cart will be at Opening Day, serving up some of his specialty dogs for you to enjoy as you get to know some of the newest members of the City Year community.
City Year Little Rock/North Little Rock's new corps members will join nearly 2,000 other diverse 17-24 year olds in 21 communities across America who will also be sworn in as City Year corps members that day. Corps members commit themselves to a year of full-time service in Little Rock's schools and communities. In Little Rock this year, City Year corps members will work as tutors, mentors and role models to make a difference in the lives of more than 575 children.
