This year, 34 young adults will officially begin their year of service on  Friday, September 26, 2008, on the steps of the Arkansas Capitol Building

Opening Day, an annual tradition at City Year dating back to the organization's pilot program in 1988, launches the corps and the organization as a whole into powerful year of service.

It is at Opening Day that City Year corps members are sworn into ten months of full-time serive by taking the City Year pledge and AmeriCorps pledge.

Immediately following the high-energy public ceremony, corps members will put their pledge into action through service at Worldfest, an event by the City of Little Rock that showcases the multi-culturalism of Central Arkansas.

At Worldfest, corps members will create care packages for patients at Arkansas Children's Hospital, lead young Worldfest participants through the interactive cultural booths, and paint large mobile murals of different countries' flags that will be temporarily displayed at different locations around Central Arkansas.
