City Year Patch

A Day in the Life

When you serve with City Year every day is a chance to make a difference.  No two days will be exactly alike, but here is an example of what a typical day might be like with City Year Little Rock/North Little Rock:

8:30 a.m. – Travel to school to begin literacy tutoring for the day.

9:00 a.m. – Meet with team for Starfish Corps planning. Use additional time to prepare lesson plans for literacy tutoring.

9:30 a.m. – Meet with Tyrone  to work on monosyllabic words.

10:00 a.m. – Pick up Sebastian and Tyric from their 1st grade class to start learning the different parts of speech (tutor both at the same time since afternoon assembly cuts tutoring schedule short).

11:00 a.m. – Eat lunch before afternoon tutoring sessions begin (sit with Karyn today as her “lunch buddy”).

12:00 p.m.1:30 p.m.  Back-to-back tutoring sessions:

  • Meet with Jose to work on single-digit addition.
  • Work through “The Little Engine That Could” with Demarchay.  Make sure he sounds out any words he can’t read.
  • Go over Chris’ last spelling test and help with words he missed.
