In-School Service

Every 26 seconds a student in America drops out of a public high school.

As a City Year corps member, you will help students K-12 stay on track  - and get back on track - to graduate by helping them improve course performance, attendance and behavior. This school-based service is at the heart of City Year's Whole School, Whole Child approach to helping children and schools succeed.

City Year teams partner with local schools to:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring
  • Assist teachers in classrooms
  • Organize student councils and service clubs
  • Lead recreational activities and art projects
  • Teach social issues curricula about community building, the environment, poverty and violence Photo by Jennifer Cogswell
“I know that at City Year, I can’t have a bad day.  My kids count on me each and every day to be a role model – to know what they need even when they don’t tell me.“
– Jenna Weakland, Corps Member
