Jeff Swartz has been president & CEO of Timberland since 1998 and has worked in virtually every functional area of the company since 1986. The company has grown rapidly under the leadership of Mr. Swartz and is consistently ranked as one of the 100 Best Companies to Work for in America, by Fortune magazine. In 2002, Timberland received the Ron Brown Award, a Presidential honor recognizing outstanding corporate leadership and social responsibility.
Mr. Swartz has been at the forefront of Timberland’s groundbreaking private/public partnership with City Year. He joined the City Year Board in 1989 and was the chair of the Board from 1994-2003. Inspired by the young people who invest a year of their life putting idealism to work, in 1992 Mr. Swartz initiated a Social Enterprise Department at Timberland, which includes the Path of Service program for employees, through which Timberland employees receive 40 hours paid leave each year for community service.
In addition to City Year, Mr. Swartz serves on the Board of Directors for Share Our Strength and Honest Tea, and he is a member of the World Economic Forum and the Two/Ten Foundation. He received his undergraduate degree from Brown University and received his master's degree in business administration from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth University.
