Job Summary:Position Overview:The Individual Giving Manager manages and builds relationships with high net worth donors and prospects in an effort to maximize financial donations and help City Year Washington, DC achieve its goals. The Individual Giving Manager will spend a majority of their time engaging, cultivating, and securing Leadership Circle gifts ($1,000 and above), but will also have responsibility for strategies targeting smaller individual donors.
Responsibilities:Donor Management – identify, cultivate, solicit, steward, and retain a portfolio of current and future Leadership Circle donors. Identify major donors' philanthropic interests and provide them with an opportunity to realize an outstanding philanthropic experience through their charitable investment of time, advocacy, and financial support to City Year. In addition, the successful candidate will:visit 3 - 5 current or potential individual donors per week, on average, at their homes, offices, community, and business events and/or at the City Year Washington, DC office develop successful cultivation and solicitation strategies to direct and monitor the progress of donor relationships promote City Year's Leadership Circles to recognize donors for the philanthropic generosity and ensure delivery of standard Leadership Circle benefitsmaintain accurate records and donor information in the Raisers Edge database. Volunteer Management – recruit, train, motivate, and manage dedicated volunteers to help City Year Washington, DC strengthen donor relationships and raise the financial resources necessary to fund its expanding programs. Events –Work with the development team to leverage existing and future City Year Washington, DC events to increase individual giving, such as the Idealism in Action Gala, service days (including the family service day), and school visits. Specifically, oversee at least three individual donor cultivation dinners in spring 2010 aimed at exposing and engaging potential Leadership Circle individual donors to City Year’s mission.Senior Staff and Volunteer Partnership – leverage the Executive Director, other senior City Year staff (locally and nationally), and the City Year Washington, DC Board of Directors to deepen and solidify individual donor relationships. Community Representation – represent City Year at corporate and community functions to establish and deepen potential and current donor relationships. Additional Individual Donor Activities – manage and execute fall and spring annual appeal process targeting donors under $1,000, oversee Combined Federal Campaign, United Way, and other workplace giving campaigns, work with Alumni department to retain and increase alumni giving, and implement other new and innovative strategies to increase donations from individuals.
Requirements:Bachelor's Degree required Minimum 3 - 5 years individual giving/major gift fundraising experience with proven track recordExperience planning and executing successful individual donor cultivation and retention eventsKnowledge of high net worth community via local business, civic, and cultural networks highly desiredAbility to simultaneously manage short-term and long-term plans and goals Ability to lead and motivate volunteers Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment Demonstrated commitment to a mission-driven organization or organizations; focus on improving educational achievement, mentoring, or tutoring a plus Exhibit strong desire to work with diverse group of individuals Demonstrate excellent written, oral, and organizational skills; high level of attention to detail a must Ability to juggle multiple tasksCommitment to excellence and to the mission of City Year
