Job Summary:Position Overview:City Year Boston is seeking a dynamic and experienced Individual Giving Officer who will lead efforts to secure financial support from individuals in the metro Boston area. Reporting to the Development Director and working closely with other senior leaders, volunteers, and board members, the Individual Giving Officer is responsible for meeting quarterly and annual goals by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a diverse base of donors with the potential to pledge leadership contributions and with a giving capacity up to $50,000 annually.This position will play a critical role by assisting the Development Director in the creation and successful execution of a substantial and sustainable individual giving program. The Individual Giving Officer will also work closely with the site’s External Affairs team to fully leverage the site’s outreach activities and events to meaningfully engage prospects and donors. In total, the development team is responsible for securing $3.0M or more in annual support from individual, corporate, and foundation sources this fiscal year. City Year Boston’s scaled impact plan, which will be implemented over the next five years, projects a growth in program size that would increase this annual fundraising goal to $7.0M.
Responsibilities:DONOR MANAGEMENT: cultivate, solicit, and steward a diverse portfolio of current leadership contributors, including board members, alumni, parents and families, and friends of City Year; identify major donors’ philanthropic interests and provide them with an opportunity to realize an outstanding philanthropic experience through their charitable investment of time, advocacy, and financial support to City Year; develop strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit leadership-level support and multi-year commitments from new donors; serve as a liaison between donors, prospective donors, and site leadership to ensure individuals are fully aware of and invested in City Year Boston’s work, participate in local events, and develop a meaningful relationship with the organization; visit 5-7 donors per week, on average, at their homes, offices, and events in the Boston area; work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Development Director to support and leverage their group and individual meetings with donors and prospects.VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT: recruit, train, motivate, and manage a group of dedicated volunteers to help City Year strengthen donor relationships and raise the financial resources necessary to fund current and future programs; manage the Alumni Campaign Committee, Parents and Families Champaign Committee, and Starry Starry Night (City Year’s annual dinner) Committee; assist the Executive Director and Development Director with management of the Advisory Board’s Development Committee.PROGRAM MANAGEMENT: Leadership Giving Circles – working with the Stewardship Manager, the Individual Giving Officer will coordinate this recognition program for individuals who contribute $1,000 or more annually; Annual Giving Programs – working with local and national colleagues, develop and implement annual giving programs for City Year alumni, parents of current and former corps members, and friends of City Year Boston; Starry Starry Night – manage the volunteer committee and development team to meet or exceed attendance and fundraising goals and ensure attendees are engaged in City Year Boston’s mission and work.GENERAL MANAGEMENT AND OUTREACH: maintain accurate records and achieve monthly targets on donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities; serve as a powerful City Year Boston representative at local corporate and community functions; contribute to the intellectual and organizational capacity of City Year Boston by staying apprised of local and national trends in national service, public education, and fundraising.
Requirements:- BA/BS degree required- 5+ years of fundraising experience, preferably for a non-profit or educational organization, with proven ability to meet or exceed fundraising goals of $750,000 to $1,000,000 annually- Strong base of knowledge of all aspects of fundraising with a strong emphasis on individual giving programs- Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team of volunteers to meet fundraising goals- Experience using donor/relationship management software to track donors, establish goals, and generate reports- Exceptional oral and written communication skills with an ability to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences- Excellent organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks and think critically- Deep understanding of City Year’s mission and the national service movement is helpful- AmeriCorps/City Year alumni are encouraged to apply
