Job Summary:City Year’s National Impact Development DepartmentCity Year’s National Impact Development Department, based at City Year Headquarters in Boston, has responsibility for designing the youth-focused service programming that is implemented across our 18 domestic locations. City Year is interested in working in and with schools to develop capable, committed learners who are school-connected and community-minded leaders. The Impact Development Department works with education and youth development thought leaders, our field of practitioners and community stakeholders to create or improve activities, events and practices intended to keep students in school and on track through the Whole School, Whole Child (WSWC) model and Heroes programming. Our design work focuses on improving student outcomes in Attendance, Behavior and Course performance in the key areas of English Language Arts and math for 3rd-9th grades, as well as supporting efforts to improve school climate.The National Manager of Elementary Initiatives is a member of City Year’s National Impact Development team. The person in this position is responsible for product development and refinement of the Whole School Whole Child model for elementary populations, with a special focus on the 3rd-5th grades. This includes further development of the practices and strategies that increase student achievement across key indicators associated with long-term educational success and civic participation. The National Manager of Elementary Initiatives will report to the Director of Impact Development. The position will work closely with the Office of Site Leadership to establish procedures for effective practice in elementary schools for the City Year network that contribute to organizational impact goals.
Position Overview:The successful candidate will have some teaching experience in an elementary school classroom, as well as some youth program development experience. The person in this position will: Support Whole School, Whole Child efforts for high priority elementary teams in select City Year sites. This includes: o Providing technical assistance to field of practitioners serving elementary-ages students, with a focus on CY-School partnerships, literacy, math and behavior supports.Ensuring model quality through feedback and some observation. Develop and refine program design of Whole School, Whole Child – Elementary for the City Year network. This includes: Aligning procedures, practices and products to fit 3rd-9th grade strategy Consulting with City Year sites on relevant literacy and math tutoring practices, as well as behavior supports. Work with the Director of Impact Development and the Office of Site Leadership to monitor the progress of sites toward youth outcome goals, and support strategies to address any related challenges. Work with the Director of Impact Development and Office of Site Leadership to provide supports for local City Year sites’ implementation of Whole School Whole Child – Elementary Support organization’s external efforts related to impact development including but not limited to fund development, strategic communications, and policy development.
Responsibilities:Requirements:Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferable and Montessori experience a plus Minimum two years of experience in education, teaching or related work, including at least one of the following: teaching elementary students, serving as teacher leader or mentor for elementary teachers, instructional specialist (literacy a plus). Documented record of success in improving student abilities in literacy and/or behavior· Knowledge of assessments and use of data to inform instructional adjustmentsUnderstanding of school district policy and practices Understanding of school-based volunteer activities and needs Understanding of literacy assessments and instructional approaches Experience with program/instructional design and evaluation. Demonstrated commitment to service, and passion for City Year’s mission and strategy. Experience with building relationships with leadership of schools and district administration is a strong plus. City Year service management or corps experience a strong plus.
