“I have gotten to know and learn from all kinds of people – some are completely different from me in terms of background, race and class. I like that I now can relate to all different people, and let them get to know me. Before City Year, I think I accepted diversity. Now, I celebrate it.”
– Wade Johe, Corps Member

In addition to working with children, parents, teachers, principals, community members, civic leaders and corporate partners, City Year corps members serve alongside one another on teams that unite them on the common ground of service.

Team-Based Service
Teamwork is at the heart of City Year’s approach to service and social change. As a City Year corps member, you will be a member of a team of young people from different racial, ethic, educational and socio-economic backgrounds who share a determination to make a difference. You will be assigned to a team of 6-12 corps members who have a range of life experiences and skills sets, and will serve with that team for the duration of the year.
