Job Summary:
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the primary leader, external champion, and internal manager of a City Year site. The ED holds responsibility, accountability, and authority for the site’s success in achieving its potential for impact, sustainability, and scale. The ED provides vision and translates strategy into action and results, developing and executing on a multi-year strategic plan and an annual operating plan to manage the overall performance and growth of the organization.
Position Overview:
The Executive Director (ED) will serve as the primary leader, external spokesperson, and internal manager of City Year Seattle/King County. Promoting the organization’s potential for impact, sustainability, and scale, the ED will provide the overall operational leadership and direct the daily activities of the organization. The ED provides vision and translates strategy into action and results, developing and executing a multi-year strategic plan and an annual operating plan to manage the overall performance of the organization.
The ED of City Year Seattle/King County benefits from being a part of a national network of City Year programs. The ED has an important relationship with and responsibility to the national headquarters and reports to City Year, Inc.’s, Regional Director for the Western Region. The ED will integrate City Year Seattle/King County’s strategy and priorities with those of City Year, Inc. In this role, the ED will work with City Year Headquarters department staff and Office of Site Leadership; serve as a member of the network-wide team of EDs to exchange support, resources, and best practices; and serve on network-wide project teams and provide input on the strategy and priorities of City Year, Inc.
Internally, the ED will be responsible for leading staff on the organization’s major functions. Duties include staff management and development, fundraising, board management, financial management, recruitment, program development, service quality, and research and evaluation. The ED will lead the staff of 13 and work closely with the leadership team to provide effective leadership throughout the organization.
Externally, the ED will serve as the spokesperson for the organization and represent City Year Seattle/King County as a leader in the local community and government, establishing and maintaining relationships with major stakeholders including board members, service partners, AmeriCorps staff, community leaders, and private sector funders and sponsors. The ED will be responsible for managing additional operations that involve the broader public including communications, public policy, government relations, and alumni engagement. Additionally, the ED will serve as a strong, encouraging presence in the greater City Year and AmeriCorps communities.
