Chuck Gordon to Lead All Fundraising Initiatives and 20th Anniversary Campaign
Boston, MA – City Year, Inc. announced Chuck Gordon has been named Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer. In this new position, he will guide fundraising for the youth service organization’s national headquarters, strengthen development capacities at its 18 domestic sites, and direct all enterprise-wide fundraising initiatives, including the upcoming 20th Anniversary Campaign.
City Year, Inc. – an organization with 1,400 young people in full-time citizen service this year, a $50M annual budget, headquarters in Boston, 18 United States sites and one in South Africa – is guided by the vision that one day the most commonly asked question of a young person is “where are you going to do your service year?”
“We are very excited that Chuck Gordon has joined our national senior leadership team,” said City Year CEO and Co-Founder Michael Brown. “Chuck is a tremendously talented leader whose development skills and experience – along with his deep civic passion and boundless energy – are a perfect fit for City Year’s ambitious plans to grow and deepen our impact. We are honored that he has chosen to put his remarkable talents to work at City Year.”
Gordon comes to City Year, Inc. after more than two decades at the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, where he was most recently Senior Vice President, Leadership Giving. He was instrumental in a five-fold increase in leadership giving to $25M, the completion of the United Way's $30M Millennium Fund endowment campaign, and increased contributions from event attendees.
“I am inspired by the young men and women of City Year who give a year to change the world as tutors, mentors and role models, and commit themselves to improving opportunities for children,” said Gordon. “The best way I can help is to put my experience to work by increasing and diversifying our philanthropic revenue so we can do more for the students, schools and communities we serve.”
Gordon will lead the organization’s strategies regarding annual giving, special events, major gifts, planned giving, corporate partnerships, and foundation grants, as well as the celebration of City Year’s 20th Anniversary with a campaign focused on impact, sustainability and growth. He is a graduate of Brandeis University, and received an MBA from Boston University.
