This year's Young Heroes and City Heroes Graduation, celebrates the commitment of 150 middle school and high school-aged youth to serving their community. These remarkable young leaders have completed City Year’s five-month weekend leadership development and community service program—each committing 80 hours or more to serving Detroit

Young Hero and City Hero graduates receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award, issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation on behalf of the President of the United States. The award recognizes and encourages sustained volunteer service among all Americans to help foster a culture of service, citizenship and a sense of responsibility by encouraging outstanding volunteer service and civic participation.
