100 Hours of Power: May 11 - 17, 2008
City Year Detroit leads more than 100 consecutive hours of community service during the spring of 2008. To deepen the impact they are currently making, City Year Detroit corps members and volunteers will deliver transformative, inspirational, and sustainable service in our school partner communities and beyond.
Corps members lead parents, students, community members at large, friends, and others in service at each school that hosts a City Year Detroit team, as well as major community partners that exist to make neighborhoods stronger and safer for children. Service locations will take corps members all over the city, including:
- Detroit Lions Academy
- The Academy of the Americas
- Roberto Clemente Academy
- Vetal Elementary and Middle School
- Salina Elementary of Dearborn
- Motor City Blight Busters
- The Greening of Detroit
- The Guardian Angels
- Project Linus
- The Inner City Sub Center
- The Holistic Development Community Center.
Projects include landscaping and playground revitalization, tree planting, community clean-ups, neighborhood patrols, and an initiative called Family Literacy Night. More than 200 volunteers will be engaged in service that will make a difference in the lives of more than 2,000 children and community members.
