City Year Patch

Opening Day

GIVE A YEAR. CHANGE THE WORLD.

OPENING DAY 2009-2010
In partnership with the Columbus BlueJackets, Donatos Pizza and The Arena Grand Theatre

On Friday, October 2, 35 corps members from diverse backgrounds pledged to make a difference in the schools and neighborhoods of Columbus.

City Year Opening Day marked the beginning of its 16th corps year in Columbus. 35 young idealists pledged to serve four of Columbus' most challenged public schools as tutors, mentors and role models. Opening Day is an annual tradition through which the City Year corps is introduced to the city, and this year we welcomed special guests, including:

  • Ohio Treasurer of State Kevin Boyce
  • Columbus Board of Education member Ramona Reyes
  • John Poole of the Ohio Community Service Council
  • Stinger

Special thank you to event partners including the Columbus BlueJackets Foundation, Nationwide Realty Investments, Donatos Pizza, and the Arena Grand Theater.
