TEAM SPONSOR HIGHLIGHTS:
City Year Columbus is proud of all the partnerships formed with Team Sponsors. Below are examples of some of the positive outcomes.
- Read Across America Day - On February 26, 2010 City Year Columbus took a break from the rigors of recess, mentoring, and after school programs to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Read Across America Day is an annual event with the hopes of having every child in America read to by an adult. The Chase team was joined by Cris Gossard and Lenita Bonner from Chase, along with Maureen Lovell from Donatos to help with activities at Weinland Park Elementary School. Oyango Snell joined the Battelle Team serving at Heyl and Ohio Avenue Elementary Schools. Paul Tingley from Jones Lang LaSalle Americas, Inc., joined Windsor STEM Academy for service. At Linden STEM Academy, Belinda Taylor of COTA served alongside the CSX Team. Activities included making Cat in the Hat hats and bookmarks. We engaged over 1837 students and over 63 volunteers in 8 Columbus City School to celebrate Dr. Seuss and the fun of reading.
- Youth Serve-a-thon - On May 15, more than 150 community volunteers joined City Year corps members for City Year Columbus’ third annual Youth Serve-a-Thon, held at Hamilton STEM Elementary School. Projects included paitning murals, building planter boxes, landscaping and finally building a kickball field at Windsor STEM Academy. Several local corporations sent volunteers to help with this event including, COTA, Keep Columbus Beautiful, Rebuilding Together, Starbucks, Panera and Donatos.
