When you serve with City Year every day is a chance to make a difference. No two days will be exactly alike, but here is an example of what a typical day might be like with City Year Cleveland:
7:30 am -- Meet up with your teammates at your school for First Circle. First Circle prepares corps members for a powerful day of service by ensuring that all team members are present, share announcements, and are ready for the day.
7:45 - 8:00 am – Power greet students as they arrive at the school.
8:00 - 9:20 – Meet students at their first class and assist the teacher with attendance. Work one-on-one with a focus list student on their reading skills and comprehension.
9:20 - 9:50 am – Get the list of absent students from the main office and go to the City Year room to make calls home to parents.
9:50 - 11:50 – Follow students as they switch classes throughout the morning, assisting each teacher with overall classroom management and doing small group tutoring sessions for focus list students.
11:50 am - 12:30 pm – Take lunch break and plan for future tutoring sessions.
12:30 - 1:50 pm – Rejoin class and work one-on-one or in small groups with focus list students to help improve their math skills.
1:50 - 2:30 pm – Follow students to final elective class and then return to the City Year room to prepare for after-school program.
2:30 pm – Provide homework help for students while other team members prepare for an after-school program.
3:00 pm – Lead after-school girls group that focuses on positive self-esteem and student engagement in their community.
4:30 pm – Dismiss students from after-school program and have team final circle to discuss the day and review the schedule for tomorrow.
